South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics

A two year residential magnet high school for some of the most promising STEM students in South Carolina.

An early jump start

It may not have been all sunshine and rainbows, but I am the person I am today because of attending the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. I won't say it wasn't hard to leave home 2 years early, but the academic rigor I was exposed to and that faithful first introduction to research were incredibly valuable.

At SC GSSM, I participated in Bike to the Future, a multidisciplinary transportation research project focused on multimodal transportation systems. My work focused on local bike use, maintenance and repair knowledge, and bicycle/path infrastructure.

That project helped connect my identity as a cyclist with technical and policy questions: how communities make biking safer, more accessible, and more useful.

The literary analysis, organizational, and interpersonal skills I gained from this project have become invaluable in my time at Clemson.
