SC GSSM Bike to the Future

Bicycle infrastructure, safety, and community education.

Bike to the Future (BTTF) was my first foray into research. It taught me the fundamentals of literature reviews and how to combine jumbled ideas into a cohesive product.

An early research start

At SC GSSM, my Bike to the Future work focused on local bike use. I researched the community's current bike maintenance and safety knowledge. I then implemented these findings with a practical solution to improve the local community. The project gave me an early model for applied research: study a real community problem, understand the residents, propose practical solutions, and see the ideas implemented.

My policy brief, Three Simple Cycling Events to Grow Our Community, reflected that same idea: cycling infrastructure matters, but so does keeping yourself safe and your wheels rolling. I created an approachable local event that helps people learn skills, maintain equipment, and feel more confident when riding.
